Students and seniors connect on the Sunshine Coast

Age truly is just a number at Lutheran Services’ Immanuel Gardens as residents at the retirement community team up with pre-prep students in a newly funded intergenerational program.

The pilot Moving Moments project promotes intergenerational friendships, bringing together local seniors with four and five year olds from the Immanuel Early Learning Centre.

Ten seniors and ten littlies will share moments of wonder and fun over two hours every week until June 2020.

Research has shown that active and involved adults with close intergenerational connections experience less depression, better physical health and higher levels of life satisfaction.

Moving Moments is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and joins a slate of lifestyle activities that Lutheran Services offers its residents to encourage socialisation, health and wellbeing.
