Pen friends across the sites

When 93-year-old Colin Spann, a retirement resident at Immanuel Gardens in Buderim, reached out looking for a pen pal, the residents at Wahroonga Aged Care jumped at the chance to write back.
Colin was the first manager of Wahroonga Aged Care in the late 1980s, during a time of significant growth and change for the village. In his letter, he shared memories of his time managing the village, the challenges he faced, and the many connections he made with staff and residents. His letter sparked meaningful conversations among the Wahroonga residents, who enjoyed reflecting on the history of the village and their own personal experiences through their very own pen pal group.
The residents thoroughly enjoyed sharing their stories, experiences, and personal connections to the past. For many, it was an opportunity to reflect on the bonds they had with the village and with each other over the years.
This exchange is a beautiful example of how cross-site comradery fosters a sense of community.
Their replies are now on the way, and we’re sure Colin will enjoy every word.
