A new chapter for Aged Care from 1st November

The Australian Government has deferred the start date of the new Aged Care act, to 1st November 2025.
This small delay is a positive step, warmly welcomed by the aged care community. It means everyone involved—older Australians, care workers, and providers—will have a little extra time to prepare for these important changes, leading to better care and support for older people.
What this means for older Australians and the Aged Care Sector
By giving providers more time to get ready, the deferral ensures that care workers can better support their clients, and systems will be fully prepared to meet new standards. This extra time also allows for more meaningful conversations with older people about what’s changing in aged care, so everyone feels informed and confident about the future.
The changes aim to make sure that:
- Older people’s rights are protected every step of the way
- Support for decision-making respects each person’s choice
- Care assessments become simpler and more straightforward
- Information about aged care services is clear and easy to access
- Expectations from providers and workers are transparent and well understood
For those receiving home care, this delay provides more opportunity to understand new features like:
- Service agreements and care plans
- Details on available services, prices, and contributions to non-clinical support
