COVID-19 Update – 29 June 2022

June 2022

All Lutheran Services sites are fully open to visitors except for:

  • Zion Aged Care, Nundah
  • Dawson and Callide areas at Wahroonga, Biloela
  • Burleigh wing at St Andrews, Tallebudgera

These areas have visitor restrictions in place due residents testing positive to COVID-19. Please contact the site for more information if you wish to visit these restricted areas.

To help maintain the health and safety of our residents, all visitors are asked to please complete a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) before arriving on site. RATs will also be available at reception areas, however it would be appreciated if tests can be completed before entering the premises.

In compliance with Qld Government Aged Care Direction 12, visitors are required to please:

  • Wear a surgical mask
  • Sign a health declaration prior to entry
  • Supply evidence they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Please note, although the Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of the vaccination requirement for entry to some venues from 14 April, this does not apply to residential aged care. Visitors are required to be fully vaccinated and must continue to wear a mask at all times when on site.

The Qld Chief Health Officer has directed that you cannot enter any residential aged care facility if you:

  • Have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • Have been overseas in the last 14 days
  • Lived or worked in a Restricted Area in the last 14 days
  • Are in quarantine as a Close Contact of a diagnosed person, or because you live with a Close Contact
  • Have a temperature greater than 37.5˚C degrees or have other symptoms consistent with COVID-19

Zion Aged Care, Nundah

Seventy residents and 10 staff members have unfortunately tested positive to COVID-19.

We are doing everything we can to keep our residents safe. We are implementing our Outbreak Management Plan, and are working closely with the local Public Health Unit and relevant Government agencies to contain and manage the situation.

All floors of Zion are in isolation.

While we love to have family and friends at Zion, the health and safety of our residents is our highest priority, especially given the prevalence of both Influenza and COVID in the community.

The more people we have on site here at Zion, the greater the health risk, so we strongly encourage families and friends to make use of technology to keep in touch with loved ones. We are happy to assist in setting up a FaceTime call to connect with residents. Gifts and messages can also be dropped at reception to let your loved one know you care.

If an in-person visit is required to maintain the wellbeing of a resident, please book a time to be on site, as we need to make sure we have appropriate safety precautions in place to minimise risk.

Thank you so much for your messages of support over the past week, they mean a lot to both our residents and the staff. Of course, isolation is challenging for everyone, however our residents are staying interested and occupied with individual activities and one-on-one staff visits.

Home Care Services

We would like to provide an update on how we are supporting you and keeping you and our staff safe during this time.

Infection control

You will receive a phone call from our staff before each visit to confirm you are feeling well and not displaying any COVID-19 symptoms. Please tell your carer if you feel unwell. We can help you arrange to be tested.

If you receive a positive result we will need to know as soon as possible. In this case, we can continue your home care, however our staff will need to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and gowns.

Please ask us if you need extra services while isolating, such as shopping or medication management.

Communication

Keeping our staff and clients informed in a timely manner is a priority and our COVID-19 Response Communication Plan has been implemented.

You will be notified if a staff member that you have been in contact with tests positive. We will provide you with timely updates.

Extra supports

If you must cancel your appointments with us or if we cancel group activities, we will check in with you regularly by phone to ensure you are doing OK.

Please feel free to call us between these calls if you need assistance.

Please remember that even if you test positive for COVID-19 we can continue your services. We will wear extra personal protective equipment.
