COVID-19 Update – 7 September 2022

September 2022

All Lutheran Services sites are fully open to visitors.

The Queensland Government has announced that from Thursday 30 June 2022, vaccination requirements for visitors to aged care will change. There will be no COVID-19 vaccination requirements for visitors to aged care. However, mandated COVID–19 vaccination requirements continue to be in place for our staff.

Visitors will still need to wear surgical masks at all times while in indoor spaces and will need to comply with any PPE or protective measures that are in place.

The Queensland Government continues to mandate other COVID-19 related entry requirements for aged care services.

You will still be required to sign a health declaration when you enter the aged care home and will be unable able to visit if you:

  • have COVID-19
  • recently had COVID-19 and it has been 5 days or less since your isolation period ended (unless an exception applies to you)
  • are a close contact, unless in exceptional or compassionate circumstances
  • have recently had a COVID-19 test and you are waiting to receive the results (except for tests due to surveillance testing obligations)
  • have COVID-19 symptoms.

While not mandated, in the interest of the safety of our residents and staff we respectfully request that all visitors complete a Rapid Antigen test (RAT) in the 72 hours before entry. Please ask for a free RAT test at reception.

Of course, with COVID and the flu still circulating widely in the community we also need to maintain our safety and hygiene practices. Please wash your hands frequently and thoroughly and practice social distancing.

  • If you already have Home Care services with Lutheran Services they can continue – staff will wear full personal protective equipment.
  • If you must isolate at home, we are happy to support you to ensure you have things like groceries, meals and medical supplies. Please just call me – even if you do not have Home Care with us. We are here to support you.
  • If your village is co-located with an aged care service and that service has a COVID-19 event we will advise you that the retirement village areas shared with aged care and the village will be closed. No entry signage will be displayed at entry points and all shared areas.

Home Care Services

We would like to provide an update on how we are supporting you and keeping you and our staff safe during this time.

Infection control

You will receive a phone call from our staff before each visit to confirm you are feeling well and not displaying any COVID-19 symptoms. Please tell your carer if you feel unwell. We can help you arrange to be tested.

If you receive a positive result we will need to know as soon as possible. In this case, we can continue your home care, however our staff will need to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and gowns.

Please ask us if you need extra services while isolating, such as shopping or medication management.

Communication

Keeping our staff and clients informed in a timely manner is a priority and our COVID-19 Response Communication Plan has been implemented.

You will be notified if a staff member that you have been in contact with tests positive. We will provide you with timely updates.

Extra supports

If you must cancel your appointments with us or if we cancel group activities, we will check in with you regularly by phone to ensure you are doing OK.

Please feel free to call us between these calls if you need assistance.

Please remember that even if you test positive for COVID-19 we can continue your services. We will wear extra personal protective equipment.

For more information, you can ask your support worker or phone your service directly.
